We present a collection of extraordinary mobile-based augmented reality artworks throughout the historical city centre of Laval during Laval Virtual 2025. These artworks interact with and respond to their physical context, creating new perspectives on the urban environment through an exploration of the intersections of physical and virtual public space.
In this exhibition, we showcase eight outstanding augmented reality experiences from leading Nordic and European artists. Each artwork is interactive, inviting the viewers to become active participants in the art themselves. Several works are multiplayer, allowing for shared experiences that transcend the boundaries of the screen.
We want to showcase the best of Nordic immersive art to the European XR community. Expect unexpected encounters in the historical alleys – from water spirits that respond to public data from the Mayenne river to old Norse fairytale spirits reimagined through the lens of climate change.
Location: Laval city centre, Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris
Dates: April 9 to 13, 2025
Price: The Meadow app and the exhibition are both free

Artworks by Maren Dagny Juell, Pastelae, Åsa Cederqvist, Marika Hedemyr, Untold Garden, and from the cross-European collaboration Augmented Reality Tales of War and Peace.
Selected multiplayer works are simultaneously placed at the Cité Internationale Universitaire in Paris, creating a virtual connection between the two locations. Visitors in both locations can interact with each other through the artworks, exploring how immersive technologies create new intersections between physical and virtual public space.
A magnificent reindeer stands on the edge of a cliff, proudly observing its herd as the huge animals move around the square. Each visitor is represented by their own reindeer with metallic horns shimmering with Pastelae's distinctive pink chrome techno glow, following them throughout the experience.
The artwork illustrates our collective longing for solidarity and community. It serves as a metaphor for human society—constantly moving and changing—while reminding us of the power of nature and the importance of protecting our common resources in the digital age.
Equal parts social network and public art, Interspatial Echoes displays messages written by all participants in a flowing cloud above. Visitors participate by writing their own messages and reading others', directly influencing the content and form of the word cloud that hovers above the square.
This work connects modern communication technology with the square's historical role as a place for politics and public discourse, creating a form of communication that intersects digital and physical public space.
A powerful collection of works born from an 18-month collaborative project involving 25 artists from Denmark, France, Italy, and Ukraine, created in response to the invasion of Ukraine. These works shed light on the complexities of war and peace, offering new perspectives through a range of virtual experiences.
Previously exhibited simultaneously in Roskilde (Denmark), Beaugency (France), Lviv (Ukraine), and Cosenza (Italy), this collection offers a unique opportunity to experience art that bridges cultural and national boundaries while addressing some of the most pressing issues of our time.
