With Wind in Our Hair

Marika Hedemyr, 2024

Marika Hedemyr's new piece Med vind i håret (With Wind in Our Hair) is commissioned by Sjöbo Kommun for their annual Biosphere Festival. The experience is situated in 10 different locations in the landscape around the lake Vombsjön, and draws inspiration from local fairytales and contemporary culture to reflect on the cultural heritage of the area.

In the experience you are surrounded by various modes of transport from throughout the ages, but visualised in a translucent, almost vaporous way, as ghosts from the past and the future inhabiting the same landscape. A horse runs past you, to be followed by an EPA tractor (a low-speed modified car driven by teenagers, a common fixture of the Swedish countryside,) which morphs into a cow with its young calf following it.

The project's ambitious scope - featuring dynamic transformations, particle systems, and location-based triggers across 10 sites - was realised using Meadow's platform, enabling Hedemyr to focus on artistic development rather than technical infrastructure.

When I spent time in the region around Vombsjön (Lake Vombsjön) I was struck by all the movements and motions here - the water, the wind, the machines, the insects. In the process, I explored how I could create an experience that enabled the audience to feel being part of these constantly ongoing travels across the landscape, being part of the biosphere where we co-exist.

The artwork is developed specifically to be experienced at twilight, with the glowing particles forming the outlines of the characters contrasted against the falling dusk. Seen at this time, the experience becomes strikingly beautiful and unlike anything else we have seen in AR.

We're very happy to see Meadow used for such a striking virtual intervention. This is exactly the type of art we want our platform to enable.
